Therapy Session

Remembering Our Why!

Our business story is rooted in our deep understanding of the psychological challenges faced in rural areas and African American communities. In our community, the topic of mental health is often seen as taboo, making many feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek help. Instead of receiving or being referred for therapeutic support, many experience being dismissed by their loved ones, forced to practice spiritual rituals such as prayer, and, unfortunately, some are disowned due to myths. These stigmas associated with mental illness can and have prevented individuals, especially teens, from reaching the optimal stage of development due to a lack of empathy, sympathy, support, and knowledge of mental health.

My sister and I are from the Mississippi Delta, and we both know how important it is for people to feel safe and supported. We want to create a safe space where individuals can feel comfortable seeking help without fear of being judged or shamed. Our goal is to offer a private and confidential way for Mississippians to access mental health support that includes, but is not limited to psychoeducation, coping mechanisms, and effective modalities, allowing them to improve their functionality in society. The ultimate goal is to break the cycle of silence surrounding mental health and empower our community and surrounding areas to embrace the vulnerability of others.

We opened an online platform offering virtual counseling services, mental wellness resources, and community support groups to reach this life-changing goal. By leveraging technology, we plan to provide a convenient and private way for individuals to connect with licensed professionals. Our vision is to empower individuals, couples, and families to prioritize their mental health, which aims to help create a culture of acceptance, healing, and support within our community. We believe everyone deserves an opportunity to thrive and are committed to making that a reality.

Our Approach and Philosophy

The W: Therapeutic Group believes in treating mental health in a complete and connected way. To meet the individual needs of each person and family, our therapy methods draw from proven practices, including, but not limited to, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy (CBFT), Structural Family Therapy (SFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Our idea is that everyone can learn and get better. We know that everyone's situation is different, so we make sure our help is tailored to what each person needs. Our therapists focus on creating a safe and understanding environment where people can talk about their feelings and find their strengths. We also believe in working together with our clients. We see ourselves as partners, not just people who give treatment. Our goal is to help our clients be more resilient and in control of their emotions, and to improve their overall mental health by teaching them helpful tools and strategies.
